What You’ll Learn in PADI Rescue Diver

Your Rescue Diver training focuses on preventing problems before they become emergencies and responding effectively when another diver needs assistance.

You’ll develop skills that include:

• Assisting tired and panicked divers

Knowing a rescue skill and being able to use it effectively under pressure are two very different things.

Who Can Take the PADI Rescue Diver Course?

To begin PADI Rescue Diver training, you must meet the applicable PADI certification and age prerequisites.

You will also need qualifying CPR and First Aid training completed within the required timeframe.

Don’t currently have CPR and First Aid training?

Divers Cove offers the PADI Emergency First Response (EFR) Primary and Secondary Care course, which can be completed before your Rescue Diver training.

What Is the PADI Rescue Diver Course Like?

Rescue Diver is an active, hands-on course.

You’ll begin by completing your required knowledge development before progressing into practical rescue exercises and scenarios.

Training builds progressively. You’ll first learn and practice individual techniques, then begin combining those skills as the situations become more complex.

By the end of your course, you won’t simply know how to perform individual rescue skills—you’ll have experience assessing situations, solving problems and responding as part of a realistic diving emergency.

Expect to work hard, get wet and be challenged.

Also expect to finish the course seeing yourself—and the divers around you—very differently.

From Advanced Open Water to Rescue Diver

For many divers, PADI Advanced Open Water and PADI Rescue Diver represent two of the most important steps after initial certification.

Advanced Open Water helps you gain experience and become more capable in different diving environments.

Rescue Diver takes that experience and expands your awareness beyond yourself.

You’ll begin paying closer attention to other divers, potential hazards, developing problems and what you can do to prevent an incident from becoming an emergency.

Is Rescue Diver Only for Divers Who Want to Become Professionals?

No.

You don’t need to be planning a career as a Divemaster or Instructor to benefit from Rescue training.

The PADI Rescue Diver certification is valuable for recreational divers who want to become safer, more aware and more capable dive buddies.

It’s also an important prerequisite for divers who eventually want to continue into professional-level PADI training.
