The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course is all about learning by diving. You’ll complete five Adventure Dives, including Deep and Underwater Navigation, with an experienced PADI Instructor beside you as you develop practical skills you’ll use on every future dive.

PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course in Fort Lauderdale
Your PADI Open Water certification taught you how to dive. PADI Advanced Open Water Diver is where you build experience.
This course is designed to help you become a more confident, capable and comfortable diver through five Adventure Dives with a PADI Instructor. There’s no traditional classroom course or final exam—the focus is on learning by diving and developing skills you’ll use throughout your diving journey.
At Divers Cove, your Advanced Open Water course includes four ocean boat dives, giving you real experience diving South Florida’s reefs, wrecks and deeper dive sites.
What You’ll Learn
Every PADI Advanced Open Water Diver completes five Adventure Dives.
Two are required:
- Deep Adventure Dive – experience deeper diving while learning about planning, safety considerations and how depth affects you and your surroundings.
- Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive – improve your ability to navigate underwater using a compass and natural references.
Your remaining Adventure Dives allow you to develop additional skills and experience. Depending on the course schedule, conditions and training objectives, these may include areas such as Peak Performance Buoyancy, Wreck, Drift, Search & Recovery or other available PADI Adventure Dives.
4 Ocean Boat Dives Included
We believe Advanced Open Water should give you real diving experience, not simply another certification card.
Your Divers Cove course includes four ocean boat dives where you’ll put your new skills into practice in real South Florida diving conditions.
You’ll work on becoming more comfortable with depth, buoyancy, navigation, dive planning, buddy awareness and managing yourself in different underwater environments.
By the end of the course, you’ll have completed five additional logged dives and earned your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification.
Small Classes. More Personal Training.
Divers Cove limits Advanced Open Water courses to a maximum of four students per instructor.
Smaller groups give your instructor more time to work with you individually, identify areas that can improve your diving and help you develop greater confidence underwater.
Divers Cove is a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Dive Center and has been training divers in South Florida since 1988.

Course Schedule
The Divers Cove PADI Advanced Open Water course is completed over two days.
Your training combines skill development with real diving experience, including your required Deep and Underwater Navigation Adventure Dives and three additional Adventure Dives.
Exact dive sites and Adventure Dives may vary based on ocean conditions, boat schedules and training requirements.
Who Can Take Advanced Open Water?
PADI Advanced Open Water is the natural next step after earning your Open Water certification.
You do not need to be an expert or have dozens of logged dives before starting. The course exists to help newer certified divers gain experience under the supervision of an instructor.
If you hold an entry-level scuba certification from another recognized training organization, contact Divers Cove and we’ll help determine whether you meet the prerequisites.
What Comes After Advanced Open Water?
Once you’ve built your experience through Advanced Open Water, your next major step is PADI Rescue Diver.
Rescue training shifts your focus beyond your own diving skills and teaches you to recognize potential problems, assist other divers and respond more effectively to diving emergencies.
